Ciudad Rodrigo is a small town belonging to the Province of Salamanca. It is perhaps mostly know for its impressive walls, which surround the entire city and date back to the XII century. Located at the margins of River Águeda and at 30 Km from Portugal, the city had many important battles in the Napoleonic Wars time. It has also an old cathedral, dating equally to the XII century and representing a transition between Romanesque and Gothic styles.
Before the disappearing of national borders control in the European Union era, Ciudad Rodrigo was also an important train station, for connections to Portugal, through the Fuentes de Oñoro and Vilar Formoso frontier towns.
