Palace of Congress: Lima's Palace of Congress

Just a few blocks away from the Government Palace, Lima’s Palace of Congress is where the Peruvian Republic Parliament and legislative power is located. After the independence of Peru in 1821, the congress activities were conducted at the University Mayor of San Marcos. The Palace of Congress was then inaugurated in 1908, but finished only in 1919. It is a very nice building with an equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar at the main entrance. Guided visits can be arranged for the public in general. In these you can learn about the evolution of democracy: for instance women were only allowed to vote after 1956!!
