Pantanos de Villa: Lima's Pantanos de Villa - swamps with large diversity of bird species

On the way to Pachacamac Ruins, in the Chorrillos district (south of Lima), one finds a beautiful natural protected reserve that hosts many bird species – the “Pantanos de Villa”. These swamps are important migration areas for birds that come from as far as Patagonia or the Arctic. You can see herons, gulls, flamingos, hawks, ducks and many more - in a total of 150 registered bird species.
This large swamp area results from the Rímac River basin and it is located quite close to the Pacific coast. The flora is also quite impressive, counting about 70 species. A tour on the swamps may take 2 to 3 hours – a must see for nature lovers.
