Seminar San Agustin: Iquitos - Augustine Order Seminar at the edge of the Amazon River

The Seminar of San Agustin, located in Iquitos’ Malecón Maldonado, is one example of the fury of the mighty Amazon River. This impressive two floors red building was concluded in 1935, but in 1969 the erosion produced by river waters produced serious damage. It was restored finally in 1998 by the Saint Augustine Order, being now a Seminar and considered a Historical Monument. Initially it was a private school grammar and high-school, but the problems with the river’ waters, made the school move to another part of the city.
Dating to 1933 and just adjacent to the Seminar, one can find also the Chapel of Consolation, belonging to the same Order and built in a Gothic style. Its white interiors are very peaceful and Spartan.
