Iquitos is not just about the jungle and streets full of exotic trees and plants. On the classical side many beautiful buildings reflect the rich past of the city. In one of the streets that limits Plaza d’Armas there is even a house projected by Gustave Eiffel, called the Iron House. Even smaller buildings have their own charm, like the Beneficence Spanish Society, also located at Plaza d’Armas.
The Peruvian administration in Iquitos and private entities occupy several of these classical buildings declared as of patrimonial value. Don’t be surprised if when walking around you find a grammar school looking like a palace from the XIX to XX centuries.
