Sub-Tropical Gardens: Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens

The small Dorset town of Abbotsbury boasts an extensive sub-tropical garden to the west of the town (follow the brown signs). It was originally a kitchen garden for the nearby castle (now gone) and is open to the public at a cost of £9 per adult. A passport ticket can also be purchased which gives access to the swannery and children’s farm in Abbotsbury.

The garden covers some 20 acres of exotic plants and includes walled gardens, woodland areas and views out over Chesil Beach and the Jurassic coastline.

There’s a coffee shop and plant/gift shop and special events (like an easter egg hunt) take place through the year.

If you turn left as you leave the gardens it is a ten minute walk down the road to Chesil Beach itself.
