Abbotsbury Abbey Remains: St Catherine

St Catherine’s chapel occupies a dramatic hilltop location just south of the pretty town of Abbotsbury and is difficult to miss as you pass through the town on the main road. It’s reached via one of two footpaths up the hill and you can park either at the pay car park in town or at the free car park at the swannery (just follow signs).

The brisk ten minute walk uphill is well worth it for the views out over the sea and Chesil beach and back across the town framed by rolling hills.

The Chapel itself is an interesting building with grand architecture (it looks a little like a miniature cathedral) but a dirt floor inside. Services are held here about a dozen times through the year and a timetable is displayed inside.

The chapel was linked to Abbotsbury Abbey which now houses a children’s farm.
