Olney: Olney

Olney is a pleasant Buckinghamshire town with a nice old town centre surrounded by a sea of housing estates (this being prime commuter belt for nearby Milton Keynes). The centre is where you want to spend time if visiting, particularly the old market place which had a regular Sunday market and is home to the Newton and Cowper museum – celebrating the life of two of Olney’s famous 18th century residents.

There are some really pretty houses in the town including solid brick 18th century town houses, converted barns and thatched cottages.

There’s a good selection of cafés and restaurants and a scenic walk out to the river and the church of St Peter and St Paul on the edge of town (see my other tip).
