Hollywood Lake: Beautiful setting at Hollywood Lake

Most people know the Hollywood sign, but few know about the quiet, blue mountain “lake” nestled in the hills of Hollywood. Used as a location for countless movies and TV shows, this man-made water reservoir not only provides Los Angeles with most of its drinking water, but it also offers great views of the Hollywood sign and a 3.1 mile jogging trail spanning the lake that takes you right across the dam (which broke and flooded Hollywood in the 1974 catastrophe drama, Earthquake. The surrounding hillsides are wooded with oaks, eucalyptus, pine and wild walnut trees, and rich with wildlife. The lake is open from sunrise to sunset, but times vary with season.
