Paris Frage: where to stay in paris

Veröffentlicht am 12:08 04.12.2008 von mariaa

hi, i'm heading to paris soon but i'm unsure which area I should book my hotel.
I've narrowed it down to hotel valadon which is near the eiffel tower and hotel le senat which is near jardin luxembourg.
Could anyone advice which one is easier to travel around to the attractions? I'm also concerned about whether either area is too quiet at night and not safe for a lone traveller?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mariaa,
I didn't know where exactly the two hotels were located, then I did some research on the location of the two hotels. To me, Hotel Valadon has a better neighborhood if you like to stay in a night-life area. Hotel Valadon is also really close to the river and Champ-Elysees, where you can find every kind of activities day and night. If I were you, I would not bother to pay that much money to stay at those two pretty expensive hotels, you can easily book a hotel for only about 30-90 EUR/room/night around Republique. You don't have to worry about the transportation either because it is really convenient getting around with the Metro within Paris. You can also get a 3-day pass with Metro and a day pass with the Hop-on boat bus, which I highly recommend 'cause you would be able to see every sight along the river comfortably and you can get off at any stop to visit the sight and then hop on the boat again to continue the tour. Alone-travelers love this boat bus and so did I.

Have fun in Paris

The best place to stay in Paris, from my experience, is in the Latin Quarter. This is the most scenic part of Paris and there are plenty of great bars and restaurants in this area.
Also, you have very easy access to the subway system, no matter where you stay in the Latin Quarter.

I stayed at a nice hostel called "Young and Happy Hostel" but if you're looking for an actual hotel, there are plenty in that area.

I don't know either hotel, but I know both neighborhoods quite well. The Eiffel Tower is located in the 7th arrondissement, which is the most expensive neighborhood in Paris. However, this neighborhood is quite quiet at night: this doesn't mean it's dangerous, but there is not much to do. You are close to the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysées in the 7th (the Champs Elysees is right across the river in the 8th and home to the Arc de Triomphe). The 8th is also where the Bateaux-Mouches leave from, for a tour on the river.

I prefer the area around the Jardin de Luxembourg, personally. You are not as close to some of the tourist sights, although you are right in the middle of a lot of things: you're about the same distance from the Musée d'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, and the Louvre isn't very far either. This area is a lot more lively at night as well. Hope this helps!

Hello Mariaa:

I recommend staying also closer to the Luxembourg Gardens area. Quartier Latin is surely my favorite part of Paris – and indeed you are not that far from the Eiffel Tower either. Plus the public transportation system is quite good, or a slow daily walk from Sorbonne, or the Pantheon to Eiffel Tower is also the best way to know the hearth of the city.

In terms of security I had friends robbed when walking at night near the Seine River margins – try to avoid that perhaps if alone. In terms of hotels and bohemian night, you can find decent cheap hotels in Quartier Latin as well. You will be very close to Notre Dame, Louvre Museum, etc.

I lived on the Boulevard Saint-Michel on the southwestern side of the Jardin du Luxembourg and found it much more convenient than when I lived near the southern tip of the Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower.

A) I was closer to the restaurants in the Saint-Germain, Sorbonne, and Quartier Latin, while the Champs de Mars has more apartment buildings.

B) The Jardin was nice to have nearby for a morning run and is one of the most beautiful places in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is great, but try something more unique.

C) The Boulevard Saint Michel leads straight to the Notre Dame, Beaubourg, Louvre and other museums and attractions.

Go with the Jardin.

Hi, I'd recommend nearby the near Jardin Luxembourg. As a visitor to Paris you'll be sure to go visit the Eiffel Tower, but that end of town is fairly expensive, so it is good when you are not living there.
