Many Christians and Muslims believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by the Apostle John and lived there until her Assumption into Heaven (according to the Catholics).
A couple of things you can do here is to write and post your intentions on a prayer wall and to drink (somewhat salty) water from the spring running under the house, which is believed to have healing properties.
Masses are held there daily but the house has an area for both Christians and Muslims to worship. There are public toilets available and there is also a small cafe. The charge to see inside the house was 5YTL.
The house you visit is from about the 6th Century, but the foundations are dated from the 1st Century. A red line of mortar shows you which parts are from the original building and which parts have been added later.
