I went many times to Sacramento, mainly because I was dancing tango there. This was in the Old Sacramento historic district, where houses and streets were preserved from the Gold Rush times. You will find a few interesting museums in the area as well as old style “cowboy” saloons, were it is bluntly stated at the entrance that they “rob tourists”. You should also go to Old Sacramento for Mardi Gras – normally quite funny, with all the beads “sharing” and such…

Other than Old Sacramento, the capital of California has of course the nice Capitol and the Sacramento River’s margins to enjoy. Night life is also interesting in Sacramento – though all must end by law nearly 2 a.m., or no more alcohol is served at least…

Not so much “the land of the free”, ahn?...
