Olsztyn: Zamek Castle

Apart from the Old Town Olsztyn is not particularly spectacular, but there are a couple of things to see in that square mile or so. The castle is definitely the major attraction, built by the Teutonic Knights during the 14th century. It's a proper brick fortification as you would expect in this part of the world, and it houses a regional museum, a large arms collection, a cafe etc. Most famous resident was Copernicus who was an administrator at the castle in the 16th cenutry. These days a bronze version of the genius mathematician sits on a bench in front of the entrance. The castle is located just west of the main square and overlooks the river.
