Six Flags Great America: Great America: The Unforgettable Memories and Money Spent

This is the Midwest’s largest theme park. They have speedy rollercoaster’s, a water park, and stomach dropping rides. Raging Bull is one of my favorites, while I loathe the old, rickety American Eagle. Their newest ride is the Dark Night. I have yet to experience this ride, and truly hope they did not take out the old batman ride, which was also one of my favorites, but this is important to note, Great America is always updating, recreating, or building new rides, so there is always something new and different. Fright Fest (in October) is probably the best time to attend Great America, turning this gigantic playground into a Halloween themed festival. The downside….the lines can be long on a weekend or during Fright Fest…waiting sometimes over an hour in line. It’s always a bummer when their rides are down as well.

There are also tons of activities for the tots, including Looney Tunes National Park and Camp Cartoon Network. And they do have shows for you to get out of the sun for a while, including a magic show. So there are plenty of options for a family with young children.

The food is expensive here. I would recommend packing a picnic lunch. Although you can’t bring it into the park, you can leave the park to go out to your cars, and re-enter. You also can wait in line as long as you would if waiting for a ride (40 mins to well over an hour in length), which can be absolutely ridiculous.

One day admission: $44.99 adults, $29.99 children and senior citizens, children under 3 are free. Admission cost continues to rise, along with the cost of food, mementos, and carnival games. However, you can sometime find deals online, or there is a coke special on the side of their can that offers a discounted rate. I would also recommend purchasing the Flash Pass. It gets you to the front of the line quickly with minimal wait times…you still have to wait, but not nearly as long.

Expect to spend an entire I’d suggest arriving as early as you can in the mornings or staying till the park closes…these are the best times to get on rides. This park is fun though and keeps the entire family entertained.
