Wheatley Vegetarian Café : Wheatley Vegetarian Café

Wheatley Vegetarian Café is situated on 33-34 Myddleton Street right next to a shop called Rye Wholefoods. This café has about 20 seats; it’s a roomy and light place with big tables. I the summer, it’s popular to sit outside in their back garden. I think many journalists come there because the Guardian is located nearby, as is Amnesty International.

Wheatley Vegetarian Café changes their menu each day and the options often include soups (as for example carrot and lentil soup), vegetarian burgers, lasagne (with peppers, courgettes and aubergine), wrap with spinach, vegetables, chickpeas and different salads. About 90% of the food is vegan, but don’t let this put you off if you are normally a meat eater. The portions are generous and the food is very tasty and satisfying. I can’t speak for all the dishes but the lasagne was good and the people by the nearby tables seemed contented with their orders.

Apart from hot food and cold salads, the café also has a couple of low-fat organic cakes. If you want to check out Wheatley’s, come some time from Monday to Friday between 8am-4pm.
