Brüssel: Ask for Frites not Fries

The yummy fried fingers snack in Belgium is called Frites not Fries. It’s a close cousin, but certainly varies in texture and the way it’s served. It isn’t as deep fried or lean as the American variation of French Fries. Frites are not necessarily potato; they could be a similar veggie, fried just enough to give it a crisp shell. Then, unlike its American counterpart, this is served with a dollop of creamy whipped mayonnaise instead of ketchup. The oddest triviality I faced in Europe is that you’ve got to pay (a few cents) extra for the sauce.
There were vendors across the town but I found this exclusive one a few lanes from a Grand Place.
