Cafe Memento: Your taste buds will dance for you at Cafe Memento

This is the most popular spot in town, Cafe Memento in Blackheath, NSW, Australia. It is a favourite with backpackers for its open patio with great stone tables in a courtyard like setting, and popular with locals with the scrumptious food.

I have not tasted food this gorgeous in years. Everything is homemade with love with natural and wholesome produce. There is open range eggs, wholemeal flour, fresh squeezed juices and homemade soft drinks. It is Modern Australian with European flair. Hungarian Beef Goulash Soup is great for a cool day, and the stollen is mouth-watering. Homemade ginger beer won my husband over.

There are a variety of loose leaf teas: black, green, chai, and various herbal infusions. The coffee is espresso delight. There is vegan, gluten free and dairy free choices and will cater to any allergy. Not just the normal vegan meals, but a great variety with baked lentil patty, mezze plate and porridges.

Entrees run from $3.50-$11.00, mains $10.50-$15.50 and desserts $2.00-$6.50. OH my you should try the desserts, the homemade Blackforest cake is to die for.

There is some parking on the street or at the Ivanhoe Hotel lot, they are a BYO cafe and it is cash only. There are steps to the patio and into the cafe, so not disabled access.

They are open Thursday thru Monday 8:30-9:00. Gerharad takes vacation for five weeks around Christmas and one week at Easter. He also closes during some public holidays.

This is a definite treat in the Mountains. The food is the freshest, even better than when I make it myself at home. It is worth every single little penny that you pay for it. Your taste buds and stomach will thank you.
