Cafe Banksia in Blackheath, NSW, Australia, is a shop set up with the 50s era in mind. There is old band music playing over the air, it is setup like an old soda pop diner. This is a very friendly atmosphere the owner and her employees are willing to take the time for your every need.
The tables are a bit crowded in, but it is very cosy despite this fact. There are outdoor cafe tables if the inside is too cramped for you. Blackboards are on the wall showing the specials and menu items. Collectible items from movies and the like are everywhere. The round robin cake showcase is great to show off their many varieties of sweets.
Their Lavazza coffee is great with a great body and made just right. Their menu is light sandwiches or home cooked meals with choices of meatloaf, schnitzals, gourmet sandwiches, burgers and the like. There is also a great breakfast selection to choose from.
Entrees run from $4.50-$10.50, mains $5.90-$16.90, desserts $1.00-$6.50. One of the daily specials is coffee and cake for $6.90. they have gluten free and vegan choices and will try to cater to all allergies patrons may need.
There is no kid’s menu, but they do half servings for kids. Colouring books and crayons to entertain and instead of highchairs to take up more precious room she has knapsacks that hang over the chair backs.
They are open Monday thru Friday from 8:00-5:00 and open at 7:30 for the weekends. All cards are accepted, but they are not a licensed facility.
A very enjoyable atmosphere, it takes you down memory lane with their homemade soda drinks, collectibles and music. We sat in a cubby holed table that was very relaxing to watch the world outside and action inside. This town just seems to have the historical hold on what the Blue Mountains was, is shows in the people and the charm of shops.
