The Museum of Modern Art or the MoMA is just off of Fifth Avenue at 11 West 35th Street and is a part of the "museum mile". It was founded in 1929 and houses five floors of modern art with everything from paintings to collage to photography to architecture and design to sculptures and beyond. Many internationally famous artists are represented and you will see many images and pieces that you recognize from popular culture.

It also features a sculpture garden and a gift/book shop and a library.

The museum is open from 10:30am to 5:30pm every day except Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesdays, the museum is closed. On Friday the museum is open until 8:00pm. The easiest way to get there by subway is the E or the V lines to Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street or the B, D, or F lines to 47-50th Street. You can also walk the few blocks from the station at 50th Street.

There is a free coat check available and certain items must be checked. Any backpacks or excessively large bags must be checked. You can take pictures in the museum, but turn off the flash. There are bathrooms, but they are not in the lobby. Tickets can be reused throughout the day if you want to pop back in.

It costs $20 for adults, $16 for seniors (65 and over with ID), $12 for full-time students with ID, and free for children 16 and under.

The fourth and fifth floors of the MoMA are primarily dedicated to housing sculptures and paintings. You can see Monet's study on waterlilies that takes up an entire wall of a large gallery and one of his paintings of the Japanese bridge, painted late in his life as he was going blind. Gaze upon Van Gogh's "Starry Nights" (when it's there - currently it's on loan) and his "The Olive Trees" that was painted the year that he died. A number of Seurats pointillism paintings are on display; I particularly liked the one where he even painted the frame in his well-known style. Dali, Picasso, Gaugin and Matisse can all be found along with Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera. There's also Duchamp's sculptures and art, few lonely Hopper paintings, oh and so much more! You can also see Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup cans and his "Gold Marilyn Monroe". Not too far away are some paintings of Jackson Pollock and the colors of Rothko.

There are sculptures throughout the museum, including the Sculpture Garden that is on the first floor, directly across from the entrance.

I've never been to the MOMA, but have always wanted to. I would particularly like to see Monet's works. I never knew the tickets could be reused during the day. All good tips!
