The Iglu: The Iglu

Our trip to The Iglu started poorly, with my confirmation email for table reservation having gone unnoticed. However, the head waitress sensibly kept our tables free in case we showed up - so all was well.
The Iglu has a simple, rustic layout in a relatively small room above the main bar. The food is organic, unpretentious, and often locally sourced. They dub themselves 'an ethical eatery' because their produce is ecologically sound, although this is a delightfully vague explanation. On the other hand, I don't know if they could have gone into more detail regarding their policies - I was having too much fun to ask.
We were a large party, celebrating a friend's birthday, and were made to feel very welcome. Service was a little slow, but no more than expected considering our size, and our waitress was friendly. The food was good, clean fun, with some interesting flavours but nothing too complicated. I felt in need of a steak, and it was cooked as I asked, with the meat itself being of good quality. The accompanying chips were excellent, and the vegetables crisp and tasty. All in all, it was a good, wholesome meal of fine country cooking. Friends had lamb shanks, venison, fish of the day (I'm afraid I can't remember which one) and more well cooked steaks - all of which went down extremely well.
Prices are mid range to expensive, with main courses hovering around the £17 mark and starters weighing in at around £7.
I'd recommend Iglu to anyone looking for a well cooked, tasty and relatively simple meal out, with a casual atmosphere and a budget between £30-£40.
