The Chiemsee is a lake about half way between Munich and Salzburg. The lake is a popular place for people from all over the area to go and spend a day; however, the big attraction for tourists is not necessarily what the locals are flocking toward. The locals are there to enjoy a rare sunny day in Bavaria, where as the tourists are there mostly to see the largest of Ludwig II of Bavaria’s three palaces that he built. The palace is out on one of the islands in the middle of the lake along with a (former) monastery and a convent. The city on the lake most accessible and where you would probably want to start from no matter what your plans are on the lake weather they’re beach going or sight seeing is the town of Prien, which is a station that nearly all trains from Salzburg going to Munich or from Munich going to Salzburg make a stop.
