Tian Tan Buddha: Tian Tan Buddha, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

The Tian Tan Buddha, also called the “Big Buddha” is a large bronze statue of a sitting Buddha in the hills of Lantau Island. The cable car station that takes you up to the Buddha is very close to the airport (just a short taxi trip away) and the view from the cable car is amazing. You can also walk all the way but bring plenty to drink as it looked like a long walk from up there. I was a bit disappointed to learn that the statue was only completed in 1993, but it is still an amazing sight, and even though I’m not religious it fills you with a kind of awe (not to mention the 268 steps that steal your breath on the way up).
