Faulconbridge is 77 kms from Sydney at 450 metres elevation. This is where I live, so I am bias. I love this small town. There isn’t much here, but the history is amazing and friendly people.

There are a few accommodations in the area, there is a train station and it is on the main bus line.

This area was settled in the 1870s and one of the earliest residents was Sir Henry Parkes who moved here in 1877 on 600 acres. The town is name is his mother’s maiden name. Sir Parkes was five times prime minister of NSW, member of NSW parliament from 1854-1894 and known through history as the Father of Federation. He made a speech in Tenterfield on how this country needed to pull together and become one nation, too bad he didn’t live long enough to see it happen. He is buried about 600 metres from my home in a pauper’s grave. He was never good with finances and upon his demise he had nothing to his name.

Another notable resident was Norman Lindsay, an artist, illustrator and author. I’ve written a review already about his Gallery and museum.

The Corridor of Oaks in Jackson Park is where every Prime Minister or nearest relative has planted an oak tree. Joseph Jackson gave the park to the local council; he thought it a suitable monument to Sir Parkes. The oaks are on part of what was Sir Parkes’ property.

There are bushwalks, Aboriginal carvings on rock shelves in the area and great views.

On the Great Western Highway is the bulk of the shops, mainly takeaway, news agency/post, fix it shops, car lots, picture framing, Chinese and Thai restaurants, and bottle shop. The fave shop of tourists is the Ugg Boot stand for great lamb boots, Australian souvenirs and animal skin rugs.

The Fleet Fuel servo is a great place to pick up local products and produce. Honey, apple juice, macadamia nuts, wooden cars, paintings, photos, and apple jelly. It is the local gossip shop (I know my hubby is a contributing member). The apple products are to die for.

I almost forgot about the fruit house on the side of the highway outside of town. This is a great stop for stock up on some fruit and items for your hotel or camping stays. cheap prices and selection. They also sell landscape items and pottery.
