Tench Reserve: Tench Reserve Park

Tench Reserve on Tench Avenue on the Nepean river is a centrepiece for sporting events, a tourist attraction and the locals love to come here to relax. The park has a boat ramp to release and enjoy the waters. Kids are always playing in the river here with their dogs to cool off from the heat of summer.

It has playgrounds, picnic tables, barbeques, electricity available, shelters with seating, pathway/cycleways, toilets, mobile kiosk, boat trailer parking and great areas to spread a cloth for a picnic. It is also the wharf for the Nepean Belle. You barely notice the car’s noise going over the bridge as you enjoy the nice day and time lounging in the grass.

The Nepean River shaped the landscape of Penrith in the early days, and was the obstacle of explorers seeking to cross the Blue Mountains.

Between 1864 and 1867 Victoria Bridge was constructed to give access to the mountains. It was designed by John Whitton and also known as the Nepean River Bridge. A wrought iron girder bridge located at the western suburbs of Penrith. It has been the road link for over 130 years and was the first successful bridge over Nepean and earliest metal bridge constructed in NSW. It holds the Great Western Highway and is the link to some of the prettiest areas in the state.

Beef and Barramundi Restaurant is also at this park. I am told it has great food with horrible service. I have yet to check it out as it has weird hours for operation.

The Great River Walk winds through here and is approximately two kms return or can be added to seven kms of the Bridge to Bridge loop walk. It allows you to experience the beauty of the river and a fantastic walk.

I go to the park to picnic for lunch or dinner and enjoy the sunshine. The shade of the gum trees and beauty of nature is all I need..wait and coffee.. and the husband too.
