Trinity Atomic Bomb Site: New Mexico - area near Trinity Site

Not many nations can afford testing an atomic bomb in their own territory, given the prolonged and nasty environmental consequences of radioactivity.

New Mexico with its vast land extensions and low density population, remote and arid areas – was somehow an obvious choice. When you drive along for hours and hours of country side it is with no surprise that you see dust devils transforming gradually into dust storms that cover half the sky has if you were in a desert.

This is also the case for the area of the Trinity Site – remote enough to test a bomb. The Site is open only twice per year or so – but you can find shops all around selling trinitite, the glass sandy melted rock formed after the explosion.
