There is an interpretive boardwalk at the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, suitable for both able-bodied and physically impaired visitors alike. There are lizards and birds that might be spotted in these areas and other wildlife as well as different plants. A guided nature walk that’s 1½ hours in duration is offered at the Center. The walk is featured at 11 am and at 2 pm Monday through Saturday and is about one mile in length. It goes through the hardwoods and mangrove areas down to the shores of the Indian River Lagoon. I like to carry a water bottle and wear sunscreen for the walk. The Coastal Center hosts events throughout the year for children and adults alike. There are lectures, a sea turtle program, seining adventures in the Lagoon, kayaking and snorkeling (fee required). A summer camp is open for children ages 5-12 for half-day and full day sessions.
