Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares: Beautiful Musuem in the María Luisa Park

Located in the Plaza de Américas in the Parque de María Luisa, this museum looks like a palace in the midst of a beautiful park. Indeed, I have read that it was used as a palace in the film Lawrence of Arabia. The building itself is beautiful and colorful, featuring yellow siding, red brick, and multi-colored ceramic tile work in the entrance archways. This building is the former mudéjar pavilion from the 1929 Spanish-American Exhibition and in front of it lies a large fountain, which adds to the palatial feel of the museum. In the basement is a series of workshop scenes detailing leatherworking, ceramics, and woodworking. On the upper floor, you will find articles of clothing, furniture, musical instruments, and farm implements from the 19th century. If you are looking for a close view of some of the everyday items used throughout Spain's recent history, this is the place to go. I found the museum to be quite enjoyable.
