This is the biggest and most important mosque in Mostar, and it took quite some beating during the war. They have done a brilliant job reconstructing it, and you can hardly tell the new bits from the old. This is a very open mosque and they have sorta made it their mission to represent Mostar and Islam to the tourists. They do a fine job as well, they organize tours of the mosque and tell you a lot about its history and about Mostar during the siege, when it was basically flattened to the ground. The tour guides speak English, some of them German and Italian, and the "gift shop" sells post cards and brochures. It's a charming lace and especially good if you have never been to a mosque before.
