Shiphol international airport: Endless Hall in Schiphol

I don’t know if it is just me but Shiphol international airport in Amsterdam seemed to have some of the longest walkways that I have ever seen in an airport. I mean some of the walkways seemed to me that they were at least two kilometers in length. In a way though I was a bit relieved with all of the walking because I had just gotten off a long flight across the Atlantic and then dealt with the beaurocracy of the customs system for about an hour. I really don’t understand customs, some of their rules are really ridiculous. Like when you have to go through a metal detector when you get off the plane. I mean you had to go through a metal detector to get on the plane so do they figure you got something smuggled to you by an angel in the clouds?
