Monterey Grill : Flavors of California

The Monterey Grill at 1665 Dunlawton Avenue (386-761-6868) in Port Orange Florida is in a strip mall center with several other restaurants and food shops. That fact alone almost put me off my first visit. However, my attitude changed once I entered the establishment. It was clean, light and airy inside with wood floors, wood chairs and understated wall art. The menu was interesting and included breakfast items (until 2:30 pm daily) such as spinach, mushroom & cheese omelets, shrimp, artichoke & feta omelets, several versions of Eggs Benedict, waffles & French toast. The lunch menu included salmon salad, chicken, walnut and fruit salad, and sandwiches including French dip, blackened fish sandwiches and Pebble Beach wraps. Dinner items included prime rib, black & bleu sirloin steak and tropical salmon. We were there for the lunch menu. My companion had a chicken sandwich with cheese, mushrooms and salad greens. Her choice of a side dish was fresh fruit. I had the soup of the day (stuffed baked potato) with a Monterey salad which included several types of lettuce, cashews, sunflower seeds, cheese, carrots and tomatoes with a citrus vinaigrette. Both of us greatly enjoyed our choices. Everything was fresh, tasty and artfully presented. The service was excellent. I will definitely be returning. The restaurant has a to go menu (fax 386-761-0225) and there are two spaces reserved on the west side of the building for pick up orders. Parking is pretty tight out front, however there is plenty of parking at the rear of the building.

I miss those kinds of food you mentioned! Well, we cook it a little different now here in Italy but when I was in Philippines, our food are very similar to that of Americans (colonial influence).
