Cape Town's funkiest area. It is rather near the university and therefore the population is quite young and theres lot of restaurant, cafes and bars. It is good alternative for city centres Long Street, less tourists and more locals around. Houses in Observatory are painted with all the possible colours so it is very charming area just to walk around during a day. And in the evening the parties are really on! I used to live in Obz (as locals call it) and even if is said to be one of not so safe areas in Cape Town I never felt scared.
