Dombay: No more snow scooter rides

Last year we have spent three great days in Dombay skiing in the mountains. There is a great scenery of the region opening from the slopes and skiing facilities are quite good for beginners like me. As far as that was one of my first tries with skiing, I was really exhausted struggling with the balance and turn techniques. This way I became kind of bored after some hours on the first day and decided to check what else the resort is offering. One of the assistants told me that I can ride a snow scooter around and explore the local landscape. That was a great idea! We have enjoyed it more then skiing!
Lately (2008) I’ve read the article about Dombay and to my regret found out that snow scooters are forbidden now in the area because there were numerous accidents, when scooter riders were running into the skiers and snowboarders. That’s a pity. It is hard to understand how people can be so careless with the basic safety rules and can’t follow the given routs. I even didn’t see any skiers on my way.
