So, you're in Dundee, you've got children dripping from your fingertips, and you need to entertain them - fast! Well, to be honest, you're in a pretty good city for families, and there's nowhere better to start than Sensation. It's a science museum with a great deal of hands-on activities, as well as public shows guaranteed to bring a grin to a youthful - and more mature - face. I took my 4 year old nephew there, and he was utterly enchanted.
First of all, you're greeted by a real robot gliding along on rollers, with an electronic voice and the ability to move about of its own accord without bumping into things. If you can drag your offspring away from this, you can then set them clambering into a huge mouth and nasal cavity, from which you can slide down like an escaping bogie. There's a fat red tongue to lounge on - and to catch any children that fall out of the nose!
Deeper into the museum you can play with remote controlled robots, challenge yourself to reach a buzzer without breaking the laser beams and setting off an alarm, build your own robot (not as exciting as it sounds and something for the under 7s only), dance on an oversized keyboard, and much more.
On the day we were there, we saw a display by a young man showing us how to make enormous geysers from fizzy drinks bottles and sherbert tablets. Each day sees a demonstration of some kind. At present, there's a show called 'How to Make the Perfect Poo' - and if that doesn't capture your child's attention, nothing will!
Entrance is £6.95 for adults, £4.95 for children, and under 4s go free.
