I'm just starting to think about my next trip. I went all over Asia last time and loved it. Next I'm hoping to spend a month or two, depending on how much time I can blag off, in South/Central America. Won't be for a while unfortunately...

Does anyone have any advice on a sensible route for that amount of time. In Asia we managed to do loads but we had to move so quickly to do so!

A friend of mine did a so called all mountain tour. It was to be booked somewhere on the internet and it was really cheap, maybe because it was a backpack-trip, it consisted mainly of walking and climbing from one village to the other, but he was really happy when he got back, well and tired. It was called "high in Peru" or something like that. Hope that helped :-)

I never been in Peru, but already planned twice a voyage from Chile to Peru and Bolivia. In Peru certainly you can’t miss Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Arequipa, Nazca, Paracas – all those “must go” places.

I can recommend in detail though a voyage across Central America and Mexico - if you want to focus on the Mayas, Aztecs and Olmecs civilizations. These are amazing unique places in our planet. One month is a decent time to do a great trip – two months is excellent. I would certainly visit Tikal in Guatemala, then Copan in Honduras, Tulum and Chichen Itza in Mexico. If you start from Mexico City, Teotihuacan will stay forever in your memory. Later arriving to Villahermosa see the Olmecs giant heads – and not far away the magnificent Chol Maya city of Palenque.

I kept a small travel blog about these civilizations/my voyage in cosmotourist – and keep posting individual travel tips now and then about it. Belize is also fun – enjoy your trip.
