The Vosges Mountains is one fantastic Mountain area nearby Strasbourg. It is mainly known for the fantastic wine, which grows there and has a very interesting of German and French heritage. The occupancy of the region in the southeast of France changed many times through the past centuries. Once it was German, then France, German, French and so on. This shows also in the architecture: in the little picturesque villages are still a huge amount of ancient timbered houses, which you can also see in the black forest in Germany. These cute buildings are German, as well as sausages and beer belong to Bavaria. Nowadays it is a great mix of German and French people that do business in both of the regions. The dialect of the Alsace region almost sounds German and the German on the other side of the Rhine almost sounds French. This is really funny to discover. The melody is really pleasant for the ear. The region is most known for it’s wine route. Along the path of the mountains you can stop by the villages called Hohneck, Rothenbachkopf, Klinskopf or Rainkopf, which are really funny names in my point of view. And they seem even more funny when you test the local wines in the countless taverns. It is for free to test the wine and if you are really convincing and vigorous you will have a ball. If you jump back in your car you really should watch the streets. At the sideways is the biggest collection of open air Jesuses I have ever witnessed. They are watching and protecting the vineyards. I think they are very beautiful and good objects for Lomographers. I think you should start and end your voyage in Strasbourg. Maybe you should take the bike, but beware of the altitude of the mountains, which go up to 3600 meters. So it’s a bit Tour de France-like. But with red grapes in your blood you will also manage this challenge!
