While in India you have to go a cinema of your choice to have the ultimate Bollywood-experience. The local film industry is worth many billions and the releases earn many hundred millions of euros or dollars or whatever. This is due to several reasons: there are actually only Indian films running in the local cinemas and they are loved by the people. So it is no problem to have a multimillion dollar budget, because you know you will get the money back. Ticket-prices are quite pleasant for the common people and eventually you will have to compete with pirate copies. But even though everyone goes to the movies it is still a very special occasion for everyone. Boys dress up neatly, comb their hair and put on their seventies boot-cut stonewashed jeans. It is a place to be seen and to see. And it is a great opportunity to take girls out and in the dark, if you know what I mean. I went to a few cinemas but the best was definitely Raj Mandir in Jaipur. It looks like a palace and is old and new at the same time. I deliver everything you can imagine from a cinema. Loads of red colours, old-fashioned seats and many curry-dishes at the snack-bar. And you will need the food. One film is going about 3 hours with many dramatic twists. There is an intermission. Another good chance to be seen and to see and to snack of course. My film-experience was so nice, because I saw KANK, a taboo-breaking love-story. Much better than the average films. The whole industry is like a soap opera. There are maybe 20 high profile actors and actresses playing in every film. So, it is quite common if you have three films running at the same time with the same actors. The most famous one is SRK, who took over hosting “Who Becomes a Millionaire” recently from the other main guy in the industry, Amitabh Bachran.
