Among the new islamic countries of the post Soviet Union I tend to like Azerbaijan a lot. You get your kebab warm, photo-venders throw LC-A after you and I even saw transvestites after nightfall on the street. That´s what I call liberal, baby! I was in Baku for a seminar, so food and drinks were granted for free. Yeah! There is an interesting habbit for waiters, though. When you enter a restaurant they most likely say: „We don´t have so many dishes left! What do you want“, me „but I don´t know what you offer, can we have a menu?“. „Just tell me what you want„, me „OK, can I have XYZ-Schewabschischi?“ „No, we don´t have that. But I go to the restaurant around the corner and bring it to you.“ Now that´s service. For the other qualities of the azeri cuisine I would like to mention one word: Vodka!
