I have eaten the finest meal of my life - and I've been about a bit!
One Devonshire Gardens, off the Great Western Road, is now attached to the Glasgow Hotel du Vin - a delightfully cosy, luxurious hotel with the friendliest staff I've yet to find in Britain. From the moment you're ushered in to partake of a free nip of whisky while checking in, to the be-kilted doorman helping you with your bags on your departure, everything is a delight.
The restaurant, however, is on a different level. It's a pleasure cruise for every sense - cuisine on a new level. I had a soft boiled egg and soldiers that cost £9. I had to know how they could get away with charging such a price - and at the end, all I could say was:
"Why the hell do you only charge £9 for that soft boiled egg and soldiers?"
So, yes, you pay top dollar for it all - but it's worth every single penny. If you're after a place to celebrate a special anniversary, birthday - or just the joys of Tuesday - then this is the place to go.
