Being a fan of the Glasgow Hotel du Vin, I was pleased to see one open in the charming city of York. It only flung wide its doors about a week prior to our arrival, and the smell of paint was still in the air - as were painters. Ok, they weren't in the air, but you get the idea.
This is a pricey hotel, with rooms starting at £130 for a double, bed only. Breakfast is a hefty £10 on top of that, just for a continental style. On the plus side, the rooms are chic, the beds comfortable, staff friendly, and the Bistro restaurant top notch.
It's definitely not a place for budget holidays, but for those wishing to splash out you can't go far wrong. It's a bit of a walk to the centre of town, but if you don't mind a 15 minute stride, it's ideal.
