El Paso: Garcia de San Francisco Monument

A great thing about El Paso is that it has history unlike some more modern parts of the United States. Take for example the Fray Garcia de San Francisco Monument. The statue is about 1 4 feet high and most notably the tallest historical monument in Texas. Though the statue is not as old as it looks (it was constructed in 1996, the priest does have a the date 1659 imprinted on it for whatever strange reason. What did Garcia do? He introduced Native Americans (Indians) to agriculture, irrigation, raising of livestock and cultivation of grapes. I still haven’t figured out what this has to do with El Paso, but check out the statue, it’s not hard to miss and located in Pioneer Plaza.
