The hiker youth hostel Ming town in Shanghai provides complacent accommodation in a convenient locality, if you contrast it to a two to three star hostel. There are a variety of room’s available, luxury, double standards and multi-person dormitory. I stayed in a double, it was clean, spacious, and the bathroom and toilets were in surprisingly good condition, overall quite befitting.
There’s a common room, TV lounge, billiard table, a bar (that also serves food and snacks). Free internet services are available the hostel offers three computers in the common room or LAN wire if you have your own laptop. If you’re lucky you may get good access in your room or otherwise the common room has the strongest internet access.

Nearby there is a supermarket, the bund is about an eight minute walk, Nanjing road is about five minutes and the Suzhou He River a few minutes walk. The Yu Gardens and Bazaar area is an easy 20mins stroll with many stores on the way so time flies or you can take bus No. 17 which is about 10minutes (it takes this long because of traffic).
Commuting to the airport is fairly simple; walk for about 10mins to the Nanjing road east train station, take line 2 on the metro to Longyang road.
I was informed that there were shuttle buses to the airport from there (No.3 or 7). Follow the signs to the shuttle bus area. Though for some unknown reason I was refused entry to the bus which was full of Chinese only. Please explain? Therefore I decided to take a cab as my hostel informed it should only take about 30-40 RMB. When you take a taxi an officer will provide you with a leaflet with approximate prices to frequent destinations. This is yours to keep, don’t let the driver trick you into giving it to him, like mine tried because they will of course attempt to overcharge you. Mine quoted 180rmb with a smirk on his face; I left immediately because I was literally sick this constant attempt of being ripped off. If you have the patience you could barter. The best and safest mode is to catch the Maglev train which only takes 8minutes and costs 80RMB per person.
