Chicago: Shedd Aquarium in Chicago

Coast of Lake Michigan and this is one that I would like to rate as pure marvel regarding the variety of lifeforms; the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is an indoor abode of 650 species of aquatic animals ranging from fishes and reptiles to amphibians, mammals and invertebrates. February is usually the down season for the Shedd Aquarium and hence, if you are really willing to unravel the mysteries the aquatic life holds, you cannot afford to miss the chance. But there are others as well who thought the same way; it took me an hour in total to get in. Now, that’s ridiculous; however, and I realized the easy way out by sticking to a few guidelines a certain friend provided on my next visit there. This time, I bought the tickets online (and next time, I’m going for the membership at $110 per family).

If you believe in traveling light, then I’d discourage you to apply that theory here. The food is really expensive (now, that’s my personal opinion and those in a mood to experiment are requested to carry roundabout $500 upon every visit) and it shall prove better if one carries his or her own lunch; if you find that troublesome and if you are looking out for just a place to hang around, then the Brookfield Zoo is a better option – both price-wise and variety-wise. Oh, and I almost had my camera confiscated; in case you are carrying one, leave it at the locker.

To cut the long story short, it was overall a good experience, though the dolphin show was a major disappointment. After all, you don’t pay $23 for being squished amidst a few thousand spectators to watch dolphins eat fish and jump out of the water when they are in the mood for it.
