Šmarješke Toplice 3 Sterne
I wanted to submit this location already for a very long time. But it failed at the basic fact that I simply didn’t know where it was. So it took some research to collect the essential information. But the moment I share with this place remains as vibrant as from the beginning. I was on the way back from the Balkan, where I just had shot an image-film for a NGO. Our way by car led us through Slovenia, which impressed us very much. Despite it was a state of the Balkan-Region, it very much looked like Switzerland in many ways. This was due to the mountains but also the renovated state of roads and buildings and the obvious economic success of the country. As so they have to deal with the common problem of over-aging. This was most visible in a place called Novo Mesto („the new place“), where we stopped in a Sport Hotel. We enjoyed the very great hot sources of Šmarješke Toplice. The water is outside always heated at around 30 degrees and loads of water blast pipes entertain you the whole time. But one fact was striking: besides us there were only old people in attractive swimwear around age 80 and above hanging around at the pool. You could literally grab heaven with your hands. I mean people around 60 are quite fit nowadays and you can have a fun time together. But imagine 80 year-olds, who have to collect all their strength at every step they are taking. It made me think about, how many visitors may have died in the very pool I was sitting in, during the past years? Especially if young folks like us were fooling around with the entertainment-supplies of ropes and rubber-sticks and whatever. Eventually I even poked my personal garden gnome into the water. And this made sense, since Novo Mesto once was Austrian with the oddly sounding name of „Rudolfswert“.
