At Left Bank the food goes down easy - it is super savory. We went for my husband's birthday. He had the Poulet Rotisserie and I had the Brasserie Steak Frites. In the Salade Spinach, was the best blue cheese I've had in my entire life. At the end of the meal, our waitress brought my husband...

If you're looking for a place to wax philosophical, look no further. Cafe La Scala is a great place to meet up with folks. It's also open late, so if you're looking for a late night cup of coffee and a piece of cake or some wine it's a great place. My husband and I often sneak down here for a...

Civic Park is a place that has it all - tennis courts, a soccer field, a gazebo, art classes, and a jungle gym. My favorite part of this park is the gorgeous views of Mount Diablo. If you're looking for something to do on a lazy summer day, bring a picnic lunch and a Frisbee for the dog, and...

Pacific Bay Coffee Company has a roaster in the cafe. This is probably the coolest part of your experience at this cafe. I regularly meet clients here. The only downside of the place is that it tends to be crowded during peak hours - but no matter how crowded it's been, I've never had a bad...

I took my son here because I heard this was a hands-on science museum. While I was disappointed (I'm from San Francisco where the Exploratorium is the science museum for kids) with the size of the exhibits, my son was still quite impressed with everything there was to see and do here. In fact,...

I'm partial to this place. It is a hangout for graduate students attending MSU, and it has really good burgers and fries. My favorite part of The Peanut Barrel is the beer prices, and the napkins. Why the napkins? That's how my sweetheart and I reconnected, at the bar, on my 30th birthday....

Michigan State University (or MSU) is a beautiful campus. It is also a huge campus. At a steady gate, it took me an hour to walk from one end to the other end. During the spring, the trees are in full bloom, but I like fall best. All of the leaves turn amazing colors and it looks like you...

If you have a hankering for Mediterranean food, and you want to save some money, stop by Woody's Oasis for lunch. My favorite thing here is the chicken schawarma pita sandwich with side orders of tabbouli and spicy hummus. The falafel sandwich is also outstanding here - the best I've had. If...

After touring San Francisco for a while, I needed to find a place where my son could be a kid and where I could unwind. In the Yerba Buena Gardens, there a lavish fountain dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. where there are many benches for relaxation and meditation. If you walk up the...

Bong Su is outstanding. The food here melted in my mouth. We had the caramelized blackened cod and the Hoisin lamb chops with a side dish of kaffir green beans. I was in food ecstasy. The restaurant itself is lavishly decorated, and the service here is wonderful. The only downside of this...

When we went here, the waitress was very quick with her service. After everyone had ordered, and salads had already arrived, I realized I'd forgotten to put in my order for a salad. This was no problem, as the salad was delivered in no time flat. Also, Rodney's sports the best au gratin...

Embassy Suites hotels are known for their open atrium buildings. However, what you might not know is that I had the best hotel buffet breakfast I've had in...well quite a long time here. With comfortable and beautiful furnishings, and a friendly and helpful staff, you cannot go wrong by staying...

When I was feeling lonely, I would hop on over to Duffy's. This bar in Chico is the place where you go to catch up with friends over beer and classic rock music. Everyone here is super cool. I was introduced to Duffy's by my old college roommate. Duffy's is a Chico classic - if you are in...

While we did not ride our "hogs" here, we came to this little spot out of the way in California to enjoy life under the trees. Alice's Restaurant is a great little place in Woodside California to have a burger and some beer. Outside, the landscaping is absolutely beautiful. Inside, the...

We came here on a tip from locals who said "You do not want to go to Sears Tower because you will wait in line all day. Go to the Hancock building." So we went. After waiting for about thirty minutes or so, we went up to the top and were able to get a comparable view of the city up high....

When I walked up to this place across the street from the Chicago Tribune Building, I saw the sign on the window advertising "Cheezborger! Cheezborger! Cheezborger" as in the Saturday Night Live sketch. Upon entering, there was instant atmosphere. And, to my surprise the menu here was more...

When I arrived at the Morning Thunder Cafe, I wasn't quite prepared to wait for an hour for my seat. Once the wait was over, however, and I was seated, service was very quick. The service isn't what is spectacular about this place though. This breakfast shop is a contender for a restaurant...

My stay here was relaxing, and conveniently located. Oxford Suites in Chico is located across the street from several restaurants including In and Out Burger, Applebee's and Red Lobster. The rooms here are spotless and large. Downstairs there is a lounge area available for that post-travel gin...

Here is where I had possibly the best pancakes of my life. Sin of Cortez is a restaurant located on Esplanade in Chico. They serve breakfast, brunch and lunch, and then they also have started recently serving dinner. Their prices are reasonable - and the food here is phenomenal.

Driving out of Monterey, past Pacific Grove, we came across a pack of deer standing upon a sand dune. We got out of the truck, bringing sketchbooks and cameras to capture the wildlife here at Asilomar State Beach. This beach features stairways down to the sand and water, and lookout points with...
