This café has proved a godsend to me. It's situated on Perth Road, which is easily
accessible from the city centre, the train station, bus station, and by car. It's a
traditional Scottish café layout at the front, with tables and waitress service, and
cakes on display at the counter....

Our trip to The Iglu started poorly, with my confirmation email for table reservation
having gone unnoticed. However, the head waitress sensibly kept our tables free in case we
showed up - so all was well. The Iglu has a simple, rustic layout in a relatively small
room above the...

Although Number 40 walks the walk of a Hotel du Vin restaurant, with sleek decor and an
impressive looking menu, on attempting to talk the talk it trips and falls on its
face. Granted, the doors haven't been open for all that long, but from our inauspicious
arrival to find the front...

Just before my trip to Iceland I decided I ought to get some off-road experience, because
I wanted to drive across Iceland's rugged Interior. I looked for my nearest centre, and
found one in nearby Strathmiglo - so I phoned up, booked a starter course for £99 and I
was set. Because I...

If you're thinking about visiting the UK, I'd like to examine some of the old clichés to
help you make up your mind. 1) The British are uptight and rigid. False. In fact, the
British are some of the most open minded people in the world, with a vast swathe of
foreign influences...

This is a truly delightful traditional inn, which sits right on the waterfront in Elie -
itself a traditional Fife coastal town. You can't get much cosier, with its open fire,
chatty locals and free-flowing pints. For camaraderie, stay in the bar - but it can get
crowded with people...

This is one of the best restaurants in Fife, if not Scotland. It's run by a husband and
wife, and has a cosy, unpretentious feel that makes you feel comfortable and welcome. When
we were there last, the atmosphere was relaxed, but we have been there when it's been more
stilted....

Fancy experiencing a bit of golf at St Andrews? Can't play to save your life? Fear not, my
friends - the answer is at hand in the Himalayas putting green. It's hugely entertaining,
with 18 holes of devillish fun, and costs only a few measly pounds. There's no need to
book. You simply...

So, you're in Dundee, you've got children dripping from your fingertips, and you need to
entertain them - fast! Well, to be honest, you're in a pretty good city for families, and
there's nowhere better to start than Sensation. It's a science museum with a great deal of
hands-on...

This cosy restaurant has been awarded 3 AA rosettes, and the price matches its reputation.
For a 3 course meal with drinks before, after, and a bottle of wine, don't expect to part
with less than £50 per person. The Cellar's situation couldn't be more ideal for a
romantic escape. Set...

Dundee is Scotland's 4th largest city - which doesn't make it very big at all. It's got a
poor reputation, with many of my aquaintance describing it as a 'dump' a 'dive' or a 'good
place to go and get yourself a kicking.' But I'm here to tell you - I love this town. It's
reputation is...

A trip to Dundee United's home ground is like something out of the annals of history - a
run-down old ground, capacity 14,200 seats (and yet they managed a recent record crowd of
28,000 when Barcelona came to play), it breathes working-class footie with every cheer.
Forget the chrome...

The Discovery is Captain Scott's famous ship, which took him to the Antarctic and, first
and foremost, it's rather beautiful - a last remnant of a bygone era of seafaring, with
its triple masts and elegant lines. It bobs serenely in the harbour, an easy walk from the
railway station...

The best thing about the Malmaison restaurant is its atmosphere. The dark wood and
intimate lighting gives an aura of privacy, as do the well-spaced tables. There's no sense
of being too close to other diners, and conversation therefore tends to be free-flowing,
rather than hushed....

A friend and I decided to start blowing our budgets occasionally and going out for some
really fancy food once a month or so. We started with The Atrium, in the West End,
opposite the Usher Hall. First impressions were favourable. They're very proud of their
award-winning status,...

Despite not harbouring an abiding fascination with the history of fishing, this really was
an interesting attraction. For a reasonable price we were able to see the inside of one of
the Hanseatic merchant's houses. They were German traders who developed a keen network of
houses all...

Bergen's waterfront is a delightfully picturesque place, with tall, gabled buildings
painted different shades of red, white and mustard. Yachts and motorboats bob on the
water, and the elegant looking shops try to entice you in to buy all the usual tourist
tat. Resist, unless you want...

This was actually my favourite of all the waterfalls I saw in Norway, for a couple of
reasons: First of all, we didn't set out to see it, but came upon it by accident while
driving from Utne to Bergen. It's situated about a mile from Norheimsund, an hour or so
from Bergen, and it...

This is Norway's most visited waterfall, and it's easy to see why. Situated not far from
Highway 7, it's easy to access and truly spectacular. There are two falls, facing one
another across a cliff face - one a gushing river, the other little more than a stream -
but both stunning....

I loved this hotel, depsite the fact I went there in off-season, with a friend who was
suffering terrible toothache and whose nerves were seriously on edge! The hotel is an
eighteenth century, wooden, white house built right on the fjordside. It's been a hotel
for 300 years, and...
