Thanks for this review.

I particularly like:
"The 12 story, red brick apartment has an air of a woman a dozen years past her prime, but still lovely in many ways and perhaps even more intriguing because of the age and the careworn look to it. " Excellently described!

Would also love to stay there one day.
Definitely informative. Terrific travel tip!
Great tips!

Great picture! Thanks for sharing.
I adore beautiful sunsets. Seeing the one in Porto Alegre will be a must. Good tip! Unlike Rio, I don't know much at all about Porto Alegre so it's interesting to learn more about the city.
After reading your tip I can really imagine how Farol must look like. Am sure I would like it there. Wouldn't say no to beautiful beaches, dolphin-spotting or a laid back atmosphere.

By the way, I tried to find Farol on Google Maps but the only Farol I found was a town near Belem in northern Brazil.

Good tip! Laguna sounds nice. I like the idea of being able to spot dolphins.
Praia da Rosa seems like a great tourist spot. Whale watching is something I've always wanted to do.
Blue sky, white sand and a view of mountains, Barra de Lagoa almost seems like heaven. At least from looking at your picture. Will definitely give camping a chance if I ever pass by this place.
What a lovely picture. I wouldn't say no to living in a hotel room with a beautiful view like that. That's great that the tourism board was so helpful with arranging accommodation.
Florianopolis definitely seems like it's worth exploring. I am sure I would like it there.

I like the picture.
Blumenau sounds like a German or Austrian city. Humid and hectic doesn't sound like the optimal combination, so I would pass on Blumenau and travel directly to the coast instead.

Good picture!
I actually thought that was a bit funny. That 80% of the population in a sleepy little town in southern Brazil still speak German.

The nutricionista sandwich seems like something in my taste. I love black bread and alfalfa sprouts.
I think one can get an enjoyable experience even if a place isn't popular among tourists. Even though it's interesting to look at sights and take in the culture of a place, I believe you can learn as much by meeting and getting to know locals and see how they live.
Since I probably will travel to southern Brazil later this year I'm going to read your story and see if I can get any good tips on what to see and do.

Must have felt exciting to be able to experience another part of Brazil as well. I'm sure Rio is amazing, but there always comes a time when one wants to explore more... at least for me.
What an experience!

I love outdoor activities, so am pretty sure I'd enjoy this town. Didn't know it was the highest location in Brazil - interesting.
Great tip! After having spent six months working in Switzerland I became a real chocolate lover. It will be interesting to see if the Brazilian version in Gramado can beat the Swiss chocoalte. And I will keep the Prawer chocolate factory in mind when I travel to Gramado.
I would love to learn how to do capoeira.
It's stupid that food gets wasted when there are so many hungry people on the streets who would be ecstatic to get a warm meal. I will keep the expression pra voce in mind when I'm walking the streets of Rio and have a doggy bag of leftovers in my hand.
I completely agree that Brazil is somewhat of a 'class-ist' country and after reading your story I would definitely say that this is racism in the media, unfortunately.
